Merrie Monarch Hula Festival is community-wide in Hilo

This past Sunday, Easter Sunday, marked the official start of this year’s Merrie Monarch Hula Festival. Hilo is all culture this week, with pop-up hula performances, fabulous craft shows/sales, laulau available everyday, and feather and flower lei adornments. Stores are drawing in customers with guest appearances of local recording artists, a most-impressive line-up. Thursday night will be the Miss Aloha Hula contest, not a beauty-of-face contest, but one celebrating the mastery of Hawaiian language, chant, and dance. Friday and Saturday nights are competition nights for men’s and women’s halau, Friday’s being the ancient style, kahiko, and Saturday’s being modern hula. If you are not in Hilo, you can livestream the Merrie Monarch on  http://www.k5thehometeam.com/.  Check the website for details. Remember, the time given is Hawaiian time.

Because you’ll want to take some of our yummy Hawaiian Macadamia Granola home with you, check the KTA Puainako store first, or in Kona, the KTA in the Keauhou Shopping Center, and Island Naturals on Luhia Street both have it. We also do a custom batch for Kona Coffee & Tea Company, which you can get at their darling shop on Palani Road. The KTA in Waikoloa Village, and the KTA in Waimea/Kamuela carry a nice selection, too. …Or, give us a call between 9AM and 6PM, Hawaiian time.
